The local transport needs of people in Echuca and Girgarre will be improved following the announcement of almost $60,000 in two grants from the Andrews Labor Government to support improvements to local transport services.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp today announced a $35,750 grant to the Crossenvale Community House to help run a new 11-seater bus service. The bus was donated from a local business. The Victorian Government grant will support a bookings system, the promotion of the service, driver training, and development of local partnerships to support the service.
The bus service was established after the Crossenvale Community House identified a need for an additional community transport service to support people in the community without access to a car, and those with a disability, to get to medical and other appointments.
The service will improve independence and prevent social isolation and loneliness among people in the community with limited transport options.
The Moama Bowling Club donated the bus at a cost of $26,872, and the Campaspe Shire Council contributed $1000.
Mark Gepp MP also announced a grant of $23,870 to support a community car door-to-door transport service for Girgarre. Relying on volunteer drivers, demand for the service has increased in recent times. The funding will support volunteer driver recruitment efforts and improvements to the management of the service.
The Girgarre Community Group door-to-door car service has been operating since 1983. It reduces isolation for local residents and enables greater participation of local people in their local community.
The Campaspe Shire Council contributed $1000 to the project.
Funding for both projects are through the Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program which supports flexible and tailored transport trials, services and small-scale infrastructure projects.
