Multiple sporting venues in the Buloke Shire are set for a transformation – thanks to a $2,148,786 funding boost from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP today announced that the project is one of 27 to benefit from a share in more than $68 million from the stimulus program.
This investment recognises the overwhelming demand for shovel-ready community sports infrastructure and is part of the Victorian Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package creating jobs and kick-starting vital projects across the state.
The projects in Buloke Shire will include the construction of sports ground lighting and upgrading of existing lighting infrastructure at multiple sites to reach standards expected by the relevant sport governing bodies. These include:
- The Wycheproof Recreation Reserve project – which will include the installation of lighting for the oval, tennis courts and the hockey pitch.
- Donald Tennis Club
- The Nullawil Netball & Tennis project which will include the installation of lighting for netball courts, tennis courts and football club.
- The Charlton Park Oval project which will see installation of lighting for the hockey pitch, tennis courts and the oval.
These upgraded facilities will provide a perfect base for local clubs to develop programs, train, host games and events.
This investment is about helping grassroots sports communities get back in the game when the time is right.
From sports field lighting upgrades at multiple sites to new indoor sports courts, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.
By working with local government authorities, alpine resort boards and sporting clubs and organisations, the program is fast-tracking shovel-ready community sports infrastructure projects across Victoria and is expected to create almost $140 million in local economic activity.
This includes jobs in construction and supply chains with benefits for local businesses through the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First requirements which will be built into contracts.

Quotes attributable to Anthony Judd, Chief Executive Officer, Buloke Shire Council
“This is a really fantastic announcement that will benefit eight sporting clubs across four different towns in the Shire. Sport and Recreation is such a big part of life in Buloke and we know that our communities have really missed the social connection throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“It’s really wonderful that this investment will extend the training hours for each of these facilities and boost participating in sport in our Shire once we are able to return. We congratulate each of the clubs and thank the State Government for this investment.”
