The Shepparton community has received funding for the Maude Street Mall Revitalisation 2021 project – thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund – Stimulus Round.
Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP was in Shepparton today at the Maude Street Mall to officially announce the $3,750,000 funding for Greater Shepparton City Council’s redevelopment project – which is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to build the things that matter to locals, and help towns thrive.
Following extensive community consultation, Greater Shepparton City Council has adopted a plan to redevelop the Maude Street Mall located in the heart of the Shepparton CBD into a more functional and active space.
Introducing slow moving, one-way traffic and parking, the new project will provide the confidence for landlords and new businesses to invest in the space – driving more locals and visitors to the shopping area, creating new jobs and stimulating the local economy.
Once redeveloped the Mall will become a more active and safe space throughout the trading day and encourage a greater night time economy – and will provide a refreshed and modern landing point for visitors to Shepparton with features that celebrate the region’s cultural diversity, agricultural prosperity and arts offering.
The project is among a suite of successful initiatives across Northern Victoria, as part of this year’s Regional Infrastructure Fund – Stimulus Round.
The Regional Infrastructure Fund is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s flagship $156 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, which helps businesses create more jobs in regional Victoria, support community projects and support councils to build the infrastructure locals and visitors need.
The stimulus round aims to revitalise local economies while we continue our steady recovery from the global pandemic by creating more jobs now, while improving tourism and community infrastructure.
The Fund is key to the Government’s $8 billion investment across regional and rural Victoria unveiled in the Andrews Labor Budget 2020/21 to support communities to come back stronger than ever.
The second round of the Fund’s 2020/21 program is due to open for applications from 16 June 2021. Under this competitive round, local regional and rural councils will be invited to apply for grants.
