Like we have done for the last five years, the Andrews Labor Government has been keeping its promises and delivering for all Victorians since it was re-elected 365 days ago.
Sunday 24 November marks one year since the last state election, when Victorians overwhelmingly voted for the Labor Government’s positive plan for a stronger, fairer Victoria.
Since then, we’ve been getting on with the policies and projects we promised for Northern Victoria – from building and upgrading local schools and hospitals, to delivering the road and rail projects locals need to get them home sooner.
Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP is proud to highlight just some of many achievements over the last 12 months.
We promised to get on with delivering a great local schools across Northern Victoria and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
On top of our unprecedented $5.6 billion investment in new and upgraded schools, we’re also getting on with the largest ever maintenance blitz across every single one of Victoria’s 1,500 government schools.
Students and teachers in the Murray Plains region will benefit from than $2.8 million to ensure their classrooms are safe, modern and well maintained.
Early childhood learning can help shape a child’s entire future. That’s why we’re preparing for the biggest-ever reform of early childhood education with the introduction of Three-Year-Old Kinder, starting right here in regional Victoria.
Buloke and Yarriambiack Shires in the Mildura region will be one of the first in the state to offer Three-Year-Old Kinder for local families, beginning in 2020.
We’re also building better kinders and training new kinder teachers, ensuring our youngest Victorians are ready for school – and set for life.
Free TAFE is breaking down barriers for people to get into training. New data released this month reveals 36,000 students have started Free TAFE courses in the nine months to the end of September – a 90 per cent increase in commencements in these courses compared to the same time in 2018.
Since 2015, the Victorian Government has invested more than $1.3 billion to rebuild the State’s TAFE system and ensure students can get the skills they need for the jobs they want, and help grow the Victorian community.
Nothing matters more than your health and the health of the people you love. That’s why we’re ensuring more regional Victorians can get the world-class care they need closer to home with our flagship Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF).
In 2019/20, the Government is investing $44.83 million in the Swan Hill Hospital’s operations – which is $4.91 million more than the previous 12 months.
And we’re delivering on our commitment to fund an extra 500,000 appointments with medical specialists in regional Victoria.
Country roads are the backbone of regional Victoria – they connect communities to work, study and to each other. Under our dedicated country roads authority, Regional Roads Victoria, we’re delivering one of the biggest road maintenance blitzes our state has ever seen, $57.2 million was being invested in rebuilding, resurfacing and repairing around 268 kilometres of roads across the region as part of the Labor Government’s road maintenance blitz.
Victoria’s regional unemployment rate is 3.7 per cent, the lowest in the country, compared with 6.6 per cent under the former Coalition government.
We are targeting investments in high-value and growing sectors like agriculture, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and technology to create new jobs.
Commercial and industrial properties in regional Victoria will receive a stamp duty concession of 10 per cent, which will reach to 50 per cent by 1 July 2023.
Payroll tax will fall to 1.21 per cent by 2022-23, meaning regional businesses in Victoria will continue to have the lowest payroll tax rate in the country. The Labor Government is doing more to encourage businesses to relocate to Victoria’s regional areas, while supporting existing regional businesses to expand their operations and hire more staff.
But that is not all.
From Treaty and the First Peoples Assembly and sports facility funding to Drought relief and Solar Homes; The Andrews Labor Government is leading the way in delivering for everyone.
