Catholic and independent schools across Victoria will benefit from a record investment in infrastructure – through a new round of the Andrews Labor Government’s $402 million Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.
Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP today welcomed the latest announcement of round 2 funding for local non-government schools, for projects such as building new schools, increasing capacity or upgrading facilities at existing schools.
It also supports removal of asbestos and cladding in these schools.
Last year, round one of the fund delivered more than $73 million in funding to 28 projects in the Catholic and independent school sector across Victoria.
This included $5 million towards a senior school building at St Michael’s Primary School in North Melbourne, $4.9 million towards a school extension at Heritage College in Officer, and $4.8 million towards a year 7 and 8 classroom block at Bacchus Marsh Grammar.
This four-year contribution to non-government schools more than triples the capital funding support provided to the sector since 2015.
With more than one third of students in Victoria attending non-government independent and Catholic schools, the Labor Government is ensuring all students benefit from better school infrastructure.
The funding is part of a record $1.82 billion investment in Victoria’s education infrastructure in the Victorian Budget 2019/20 – delivering on the promise to make Victoria the Education State.
Non-government schools can apply for grants between $50,000 and $5 million.
