Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp, today announced that the Merbein Football Netball Club was among 23 sports facilities across Victoria to share in more than $2 million from the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program.
-Cohuna Football Netball Club will receive $100,000 to upgrade the lighting on the main football oval to 150 lux and the netball court to 200 lux at the Cohuna Recreation Reserve.
-Merbein Football Netball Club will receive $100,000 from the Andrews Labor Government as part of a $341,297 project to construct a second netball court adjacent to an existing netball court and install competition standard lighting 200 lux to light both courts. Mildura Rural City Council will inject $126,297 into the project.
– Pyramid Hill Football Netball Club will receive $70,279 upgrade the lighting to the football oval to 50 lux and netball court to 100 lux to make them compliant for night training.
These upgrades will provide clubs with the ability to extend training hours and assist members to stay healthy and active, either as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer.
“We are funding these upgrades so that players in Northern Victoria have access to the safe, modern facilities they truly deserve,” Mr Gepp said. “Regional clubs have bred some of our nation’s greatest sporting champions – and we’re giving them the facilities they need to continue this proud tradition.”
Labor first started the Country Football and Netball Program in 2005, and since, a total of over 400 projects have shared in funding of over $22 million through the program.
This program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and facilities for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria so they can meet growing demand and welcome even more members.
The 2016/17 Victorian Budget delivered a further $60 million boost to build new and upgrade sporting facilities across the state and keep our reputation as the nation’s sporting capital. This included another $8 million boost for the Country Football and Netball Program.
The program has an additional $1 million from partners the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
