New traffic lights at the entrance to KidsTown Adventure Playground in Mooroopna have been switched on in time for the school holidays and KidsFest activities.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the new lights will make it safer and easier to enter and exit KidsTown.
Previously, a large number of vehicles entering and exiting KidsTown had to cross the Midland Highway.
There is now a dedicated turning light for cars waiting to turn in or out, which will only be activated when cars are waiting to turn – to avoid holding up traffic on the highway.
Some finishing touches will be undertaken in coming weeks including an asphalt overlay, line marking and street lighting works.
This stretch of the highway is one of Victoria’s highest risk roads. Between 2010-2017, there were 79 crashes on this stretch, where three people tragically lost their lives and 32 people were seriously injured.
The new lights are part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $22.8 million package of upgrades to improve safety along the Midland Highway between Shepparton and Stanhope.
The Labor Government is also delivering new overtaking lanes, a new roundabout, intersection upgrades, road widening and flexible safety barriers as part of these works.
