More than 230 road maintenance projects will be delivered across northern Victoria as the Andrews Labor Government’s regional road maintenance blitz ramps up from September, delivering safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys for Victorian drivers.
Crews will hit the region’s roads as the weather warms up, rebuilding, repairing, and resurfacing more than 390 kilometres of roads. The program will target some of northern Victoria’s busiest and most important freight, travel and transport routes, including the Loddon Valley and Pyrenees highways and Melbourne-Lancefield Road.
Right across Victoria, the blitz will deliver more than 1,000 maintenance projects on regional roads, including providing safer and smoother journeys across more than 1,300 kilometres of the network. Crews will also be busy replacing almost 30,000 roadside signs and mowing 40,000 kilometres of roadside grass across the state.
The major investment is also set to deliver for regional economies, keeping farmers, manufacturers, and freight operators connected with trade opportunities and supporting jobs right across the supply chain, from workers on the ground through to suppliers based right across the state.
The work is part of the Government’s continued investment in regional transport, delivering a better road and rail network across northern Victoria, including the Echuca-Moama Bridge project, which will provide a second river crossing over the Murray Highway, making it quicker, easier, and more convenient for traffic travelling between Echuca and Moama.
Upgrades are also underway as part of the Bendigo and Echuca Line Upgrade, with construction commencing on new Victorian Government-funded stations at Goornong and Huntly and track upgrades taking place between Epsom and Goornong.
With crews set to be out in force across the region’s roads, drivers are reminded to remain patient and stay alert when travelling through work sites, keeping road workers safe as they get on with delivering these essential works.
