The Andrews Labor Government honoured the outstanding achievements of vocational education and training students, teachers and the businesses who train them – at the 65th Victorian Training Awards on Friday night – with SuniTAFE taking out the Large Training Provider of the Year award in the training provider category.
Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP congratulated SuniTAFE for their contribution and dedication to excellence in training.
SuniTAFE was among the 14 winners of the annual awards, dedicated to the state’s vocational education and training system.
Established in 1980, SuniTAFE is a leading provider of vocational education in north-west Victoria. The Institute has a large reach, geographically covering around 17% of Victoria’s total area. There are two main campuses located in Mildura and Swan Hill – a rural campus in Robinvale, and a fully functioning 30-hectare training farm in Cardross (now a SMART Farm) near Mildura.
SuniTAFE enrols almost 6,000 students annually and employs 225 EFT (full-time equivalent) academic and support staff. Collaboration has long been a focus of the Institute – with industry, community, schools, Universities and other TAFEs, on-campus partner organisations, local government and environmental groups.
Now in their 65th year, the Victorian Training Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of organisations and individuals involved in vocational education and training across the state.
Winners were selected from 39 finalists, with the winners receiving $5,000 each in prize money. Winners from eligible categories will represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards in November.
Since 2015, the Labor Government has invested more than $1.3 billion to rebuild our TAFE system and ensure students can get the skills they need for the jobs they want.
