The Andrews Labor Government is assisting a group of Councils as they seek to turn waste into compost and improve the sustainability of their communities.
Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek today announced that Swan Hill Rural City Council will receive $36,000 in funding to deliver ‘From Waste to Growth’ with Buloke Shire Council and Yarriambiack Shire Council.
Having established that the project is feasible the Councils will now develop a business plan so they can continue their plan to turn waste into compost.
A regional composting facility would help transform agricultural, industrial, commercial and household organic waste into high quality compost – a resource that is currently bought in bulk from interstate.
It will also reduce production of landfill methane and contribute to the Andrews Labor Government’s emission reduction target.
